New details about Pokémon Champions were revealed during the Pokémon Day 30th Anniversary Presents livestream on February 27, 2026. The presentation confirmed both a release window and pricing information for the upcoming title.
Fans were treated to several major announcements during this year’s Pokémon Presents. Pokopia received a brand-new trailer, FireRed & LeafGreen were announced for Nintendo Switch, and Generation 10 was officially revealed with Pokémon Winds & Waves.
Alongside these reveals, a previously teased mobile and Nintendo Switch project also received more focus. Pokémon Champions is now scheduled to launch in April 2026, and it is shaping up to be widely accessible for most players.
Pokémon Champions Will Be Free to Download on Launch
Pokémon Champions will launch on Nintendo Switch and mobile platforms, with full compatibility with Pokémon Home. This will allow players to transfer Pokémon from earlier games into the stadium-style battle experience at any time. The game will also be free to download at launch.
According to a social media post from CentroLeaks, Pokémon Champions is expected to include a wide range of microtransactions.
The account claims: “There will be an optional paid subscription that increases storage space, expands the number of teams you can create, unlocks premium missions, and adds extra battle music. Players will also be able to purchase a premium Battle Pass to obtain items such as Mega Stones and certain Pokémon more quickly without extensive grinding.”
Even so, the main gameplay experience will remain available to anyone who downloads the app. This is welcome news for players who may not want to spend full price on another game shortly after Pokopia launches on March 5, 2026.
So far, Pokémon Champions appears to lean heavily into nostalgia. Early gameplay footage shows a traditional turn-based battle system rather than the real-time combat seen in Pokémon Legends: Z-A or Pokémon Unite.
It is still unclear whether turn-based battles will be the only mode available, or if additional battle formats and stadium styles will be introduced.
With release approaching quickly, Pokémon Champions players will soon be able to battle trainers from around the world, all without paying an entry fee.
